Big Pharma Will Lose Big If All 50 State Legalize Medical Marijuana

The Pharmaceutical industry stands to lose $18.5 billion if all 50 states were to legalize medical marijuana, according to this ushealthmagz.com article.

Big Pharma is one of the biggest influencers on the U.S. economy, and the entire industry has lobbied against legalized medical marijuana because of the amount of money it could lose. As medical marijuana becomes more available across the country, patients are opting to treat many health conditions with marijuana over addictive prescription drugs – particularly opioids.

According to the report, conditions that are seeing more patients flock toward marijuana include glaucoma, chronic/nerve pain, PTSD, anxiety, sleep disorders, and nausea/vomiting associated with chemotherapy.

While Big Pharma holds a lot of political power in this country, voters have the opportunity to continue to make great strides in legalizing medical (and recreational) marijuana throughout the country. In the meantime, it seems that Big Pharma is more focused on saving a few bucks over the well-being of U.S. citizens.
